Editorial Standards

Every guide on Flint Home Decor is built from published sources. This page explains which sources count, how they are cited, and where the guides stop.

Where the figures come from

  • Product figures such as dry, recoat and cure times, clearances and installation limits come from the maker’s own data sheet, installation guide or care sheet. A figure applies only to the named product at the conditions the sheet states.
  • Code requirements come from building-code text as a state, county or city has adopted or summarized it. Codes are amended locally, so each code figure names the jurisdiction it comes from.
  • Safety guidance comes from public agencies and safety organizations, including EPA, CDC, HUD, NIH, the U.S. Department of Energy, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Electrical Safety Foundation International. A paragraph about a hazard such as wiring, gas, lead-based paint or mold cites one of them in that paragraph.

Each source is linked where it is used, with the date it was read.

When sources disagree

Codes and makers don’t always agree. One county’s toilet clearance differs from another state’s; a maker’s installation sheet and its help center give different figures. When that happens, the guide shows both, says which one it follows and why, and points to the local building department or the maker for the final answer.

Charts and images

Charts are drawn from the figures cited in the guide, and each chart’s sources are listed with it. Where no single source publishes a chart, the guide says so and the chart is assembled from separately cited figures. No chart shows invented scores or estimates.

Hazards and professionals

The guides explain the order of work and the decisions involved; they are not a substitute for a licensed electrician, plumber, gas fitter, contractor or engineer. Any guide that touches electrical, gas or structural work says so and points to a licensed professional.

Keeping guides current

Each guide shows the date of its last substantive update. Data sheets, codes and agency pages change, so figures are rechecked before a guide is updated, and the date changes only when the content does. Corrections are welcome through the contact page.
